Weekend mixed-craft touring trip (with overnight camp)

Monmouthshire & Brecon Canal: Brecon to Pontymoile

The Canal & River Trust describe this Canal as: "Meandering through the Welsh countryside the Monmouthshire & Brecon Canal is one of our most beautiful and peaceful waterways following the line of the Usk Valley through the Brecon Beacons National Park."

Date: Saturday 26th & Sunday 27th June

Distance: 33 miles (overnight camp about half way)

Minimum paddling standard: This is a lead, not coached trip so participants must already possess the required skills. Participants must also be able to paddle the stated distance and paddle in the wind.

The trip will involve paddling through a tunnel and portaging several locks

Kit required:

  • Boat with airbags
  • Paddle
  • Head Torch (for use on the water in the tunnel and off the water)
  • Whistle
  • Food/Drink
  • Spare Clothes
  • Phone
  • Dry bags
  • Personal 1st Aid Kit
  • Camping equipment
  • British Canoeing membership card (your boat licence)
  • Portage trolley for the locks (if you have one)

Trip limited to 6 participants in the first instance. Additional participants may be allowed if a second coach/leader joins the trip

Car shuttles are now authorised by British Canoeing. The trip will involve a car shuttle between the start point and the end. We still have Covid-19 with us. Please bring a face mask in case any of our members has a condition that has required them to shelter at home during the lockdown so that we can help to protect them during the car shuttles
