This is a 9 mile journey from Tipton to the centre of Birmingham along the Old Mainline Canal, taking us to strange places (like under the M5 motorway, and past relics of the Black Country industrial age). It ends in the buzzing canal junction at Brindley Place in the centre of Birmingham at lunch time- quite a spectacle, with hundreds of paddlers and boats converging.
It’s a sort of placid paddle- we sit on the River Severn just below the 2 bridges at Atcham and then have a great time fishing out around 750 yellow ducks (plastic) that have been thrown in. Doing this has the added bonus of earning my Ethiopian charity (http://www.shepethiopia.org.
Bewdley to Worcester- 17 miles down a beautiful section of the ‘our’ river, including a passage though the first set of locks.
