Shrewsbury Canoe Club (SCC) was founded in 1970 with only a handful of members. The club has grown during the years and now has a membership in excess of 150, including individuals and families.
Shrewsbury Canoe Club focuses primarily on the recreational side of paddle sport. The club prides its self on introducing both children and adults alike, to the various forms of paddle sport in a fun and friendly atmosphere. The club aims to keep its costs to members as low as possible to allow paddle sport to be accessible to as wide a range of the local community as possible.
Shrewsbury Canoe Club has members that participate in many of the disciplines of paddle sport, so whatever form of paddle sport you are interested in it is very likely that there will be someone else in the club to paddle and discuss your chosen form of paddle sport with. The club has members who participate in the following disciplines: white water kayak, traditional open canoe, sea kayak, specialist open canoe, placid water touring, freestyle, wild water racing, marathon and canoe polo. If your chosen discipline is not mentioned then please contact us and we will try to put you in touch with likeminded paddlers.
If you are new to paddle sport then the club can offer you a chance to sample a wide range of disciplines.
The club also prides its self on being able to offer free coaching to its members and has BCU (British Canoe Union) qualified coaches to assist club members in their paddle sport development. Our coaches can train and assess members in both kayak and canoe up to BCU three star level.
