At the start of July Llangollen Canoe Club invited Shrewsbury CC to give them a demonstration of canoe polo on the River Dee above Mile End Mill. Kit was transported, players briefed on the rules, helmets donned, and play commenced across a fairly wide, flat but fast flowing section of the river above the weir.
For most it was their first taste of polo, for some it was their first time on a river, and for David Southern it was his fourth time being videoed swimming.
They were so impressed that they”re visiting Shropshire Paddle Sport this Saturday to see what it”s like without the threat of being swept over a weir if you don”t get the right angle on your ferry glide during the sprint.
