Lower Treweryn on a frosty day

A nice balanced group of ten paddlers on the Lower Treweryn in January, with plenty of old lags there to give encouragement and support to those who were at this level for the first time. High points:- Martin’s impressive efforts to stay in his boat; a magnificent team of rescuers doing their bit to to upgrade their rescue skills; a textbook high brace from Nick just above Bala Mill falls; the neatest pirouette halfway down the falls by yours truly (so I’m told- nothing to do with skill, though); a vertical bit of trickery by Tom H Sr (sorry Tom, don’t know what it’s called); and the most welcome bum-warming fire at the Green Inn on the way back.

Winter Canoe Polo Pool Sessions

The polo pool sessions will be starting Monday 9th January, 8pm to 9pm, at Shrewsbury’s Quarry Centre, Priory Pool.

New players get their first session free and then the cost is £6 thereafter. Be there from 7:30pm if you’d like a briefing on the rules.

All competent paddlers are welcome. If you haven’t played polo before, competent means you should be happy paddling forwards and backwards, doing sweep-stroke turns, and removing your spray-deck underwater. We are again splitting the session into polo paddling & playing skills, followed by back-to-back 3 or 4-a-side games.

If you can’t yet roll we won’t push you in until we’ve taught you how!
